Vision, Science, and Soul: Dr. Vipin’s Impact on Indian Healthcare

Dr Vipin Fernandez

Some people see clearly. A few help an entire country do the same.

Dr. Vipin is one of those rare individuals who brings together science, vision, and soul.

An accomplished ophthalmologist, former TED Fellow and Australian Youth Delegate — Dr. Anthony Vipin Das has been a tireless advocate for Indian research for Indian healthcare. His work has found its way into the pages of Lancet, Nature, and other top journals, but more importantly, it’s shaping how we think about digital health, public health strategy, and data-driven transformation in India.

From the groundbreaking eyeSmart project (now a Harvard case study which we studied at ISB!) at LVPEI to his leadership at Fernandez Foundation driving innovation & research excellence in Maternal & Child Health (MCH), what he’s building goes far beyond systems and dashboards. It’s about how real insights can shape care. It's about equity, context, and compassion.

Working closely with him has been a masterclass — in brilliance, in humility, and in always remembering the why behind the work. He leads with kindness, thinks at systems scale, and is always asking how tech can serve people better — especially those often left behind.

Dr. Vipin blends the precision of a clinician with the strategy of a policymaker and the curiosity of a scientist. A true water-air combination — steady, clear, and vital.

Here’s to the rare joy of working alongside someone who sharpens your mind and deepens your purpose. Grateful for the journey, and excited for what’s ahead. 🌱
